Mothers day

Planted the seed potatoes today. Pulled some rhubarb too.  Little bit of weeding.  Had a chat with a few of the guys about raised beds etc.  Differing opinions. I'm tempted to not bother but will wait and see after this year whether to keep them or not. Met Barry who has moved and clearing his plot.  He offered me some raspberry canes so I'm going to dig them up next weekend. What a kind man!

More seeds....

I've just sowed Basil "Genovese" and also red leaved variety. Plus Courgette "Black Beauty", Broccoli and some sugar peas in my pop up greenhouse. The cabbages on my window silly germinated this week and I noticed this morning that a few tomatoes "Red Pear " have also popped up.  Feeling green fingered!

Sowing seeds!

I've started!  Sunday I filled my new trays from wilkos and sowed tomatoes,  mixed salad,  celeriac and cabbage.  The salad leaves have already shooted...in two days.  Nature is so powerful... A tiny tiny seed and a bit of water and soil. Always a delight when they germinate!

Seeds potatoes... Chit or not to chit

That is the question! I've bought another bag of Pentland Javelin earlies. I'm going to plant these the same time as my first bag which have been chitting in my kitchen for a few weeks.  Will need interesting to compare!  I also bought a bag of King Edwards.  Main crop.

Shallots and garlic

Back to the lottie this morning and took a picture of my garlic and shallots that I planted November.  Was worried the shallots would rot over winter but they're fine!

Spring is here!

Beautiful sunny day! Made arrangements with the site manager to be shown how to use the strimmers and mowers at the lottie. So now all out paths are nicely cut. I cleared up some winter debris, the compost bins and a general tidy up. This was my first visit up there since end of Dec! Was thrilled to see my shallots are growing nicely as I was worried they'd rot with all the rain we'd had. Garlic growing well too. Richard (my neighbour) kindly pulled some parsnips & leeks for me and then on my way out Derek pulled some early rhubarb for me. They'll be in the pot for dinner tonight!

Here's David in action....
